Context: The Amazon is known as the lungs of the planet because the forest is responsible for the production of about 20% of the earths oxygen. Unfortunately, the Amazon is facing a ton of threats like rampant deforestation from agriculture and cattle ranching, climate change which increases fire risk, and poorly planned infrastructure that hugely impacts the ecosystem and biodiversity of the rainforest. The Amazon is facing a tipping point - if just 5% more tree cover is destroyed, the forest is likely to decay, dry out and die, which would put many species at threat of extinction and is predicted to create a worldwide climate catastrophe.
